Did you know that the word ‘tomato’ originate from Mexico? Interestingly this fruit has another beautiful name known as ‘Golden Apple’. The domesticated Tomato is a little yellow fruit plant at that period. Genetic evidence shows that one species, Solanum Lycopersicum was transported to Mexico from Peru where it was grown and consumed by Mesoamerican native known as the Aztec population. It was cultivated in south Mexico around 500 B.C. Many historians believe that in the year 1521, the Spanish explorer , Hernan Cortes may be the 1st to transfer the small yellow tomato to Europe after he captured the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City.
